Hawaiian Shirt - Introduction to Digital Media
INTRODUCTION:
For this project, we are assigned to creating a Hawaiian Shirt with a creative and unique pattern using the pattern maker tool such as a 3D- looking button using a radial gradient, the gaussian blur, and shape builder tool also an aloha label with a texture background and artwork that used blend mode. For this theme that we seen in Hawaiian shirts, we designed a pattern and applied it onto drawn shirt also with buttons as well to complete them and an imagined for naming the shirt company tag. All of these elements were put together in a tabloid layout including the shirt, samples of the pattern illustration, the button, and the label.
MATERIALS:
MacbookPro with Adobe illustrator CC was used for this project to create all assets such as a pattern for designed button and tag. In addition, references and inspirations from a lot sources and images all gathered from researched and harness sample texture that we were choose from the internet.
CREATIVE PROCESS:
I just wanted to create something that related to the sea or beach because when i went to the beach i like the views also always like to see when people surf and was think if i can use surfboard to make a pattern so i decided to created that reflected to this. Some quick research on google brought me to found these images and as i drew it i express my design from these pictures, wanted to add colors more lighter such as blue colors because it is the one of my favourite colours, made it protrude and "abstract'' texture as well to make it more luxurious or i can call "Luxurious Hawaiian Surfboard". In the end, i also added some waves in the background or behind surfboard with paint brush tool to make it a bit fun or variation of it.

First of all before i began Hawaiian artwork i chose to create a new document then selected print afterward clicked "View All Presets+" and started a new tabloid document with a landscape orientation in 792 pt width and 1224 pt height size then clicked create.
The first time applied for my " Hawaiian Surfboard" , i began to draw my Hawaiian Surfboard artwork using the reference images from google as inspiration.
WORKFLOW:
Firstly, i began by placing a picture of a Hawaiian shirt then i started to trace the shapes for the shirt one by one from the top onto the bottom as it required for each thirteen layer templates and i added different colors so it could not make it dizzy to see.
Secondly, during the process of tracing then eventually completed the tracing, i ensured and checked a few times that all the lines and edges not in a mess situation and met concurrently or appropriately also layered as well in the place as in the correct order.
Thirdly, i began to change the size of both surfboard to be longer instead of previous artwork that i made for the first time. The "Hawaiian Surfboard" was made into a pattern using the pattern-making tool in Adobe Illustrator. Afterwards, i settled on the "brick by row'" tile type, changed it into 1/3 brick offset, adjusted rotation and spacing between them until i satisfied with the result.
Fourthly, i was using the appearance panel and i applied the pattern fill also used a second fill colour beneath it. In addition, for ensuring all the elements that made the shirt to be structure. I was using the tilde key ~ which is next to number one and certainly used rotate tool to move the pattern around which is for both left and right sleeves and the top of the collars as well to be more uneven and realistic for the artificial fabric on the computer. In addition, i also made a little bit of change to design the bottom side of collars which is left and right because i got inspiration where i ever used that collars in the past and i wanted to make a bit different for my design to create more relaxed to whoever use it.
Fifthly, i capitalized the appearance panel and used the multiply mode ( 20% multiply) to reach shadow effect or darkened on the both inside element of this shirt.
Sixthly, using pen tool was capitalized to draw shadow shapes under the left collar of the shirt and the right inside the shirt. Both of shadows was used by the appearance panel for these shapes with a '' Multiply Mode" along with effect which is "Gaussian Blur" effect.
Seventhly, the ellipses tool was used to create a circle. The large circle shape it was copied triple times and colored them then eventually filled with a radial gradient, and the shadows were drawn behind the button to create dimension. In the gradient color, a lighter color were applied to the inside and a little bit to the outside to create greater dimension or variation of dimension. Four circles was drawn inside the large one using the shape builder tool to capitalized lessen these smaller circles on the inside and leaving spaces inside the button to create a kind of button shape. In addition, the line segment tool was used to make diagonally lines to create a sort of thread for this button.
Eighthly, after the buttons done also had a few layers of white color threads around the holes, they were copied and pasted into the shirt and placed at equitably distance from one to another.
Ninthly, next step is the shirt label. I found this ideas through my mind at the same time with searched on google such as surfboards, water waves, and wanted to used palm trees as well because they are related to the "Hawaiian" meaning. Firstly, i began my drawing with a pen tool to draw a dashed line for the sides linen texture. Using paint brush tool were added to drawn water waves, two surfboards (was using the ellipses tool), palm trees, and the sun. I wanted to make all of these draw different from the rough image on google to make a bit fun. The last thing, i decided to used "Salomha Waves" as a good name, it was came up onto my mind from "Aloha'' became "Salomha" which is from christianity word for my imaged of "Hawaiian Surfboard" shirt company name and i picked a font that has diifferent variation or a kind of Hawaiian for me.
Tenthly, after the process of label done and were copied and pasted laid down inside the shirt where it should be which is underneath the inner collar of the shirt. I capitalized the ''Envelope Distort" function in the object tab selected and applied to "Make a Mesh" and played with dimensions of label to create a crooked appearance so it would not irritate the skin.
The last but not least, i named my shirt "Let Sea Set You Free"  because i think it can be used for people who wanted to take a holiday or often go to the beach then i laid all the elements of the shirt such as buttons, pattern, and label also made it visible.
FINAL WORK:

CONCLUSIONS:
This surfboard shirt was enjoyable and i'm quite satisfied with the final that i made. I learned a lot how to make a pattern also adjust it in Adobe Illustrator and using a variety of gradients, pen tool, paint brush tool and appearance panel is the best idea to saving your work easily. If i was to do this project again, i would like to draw different styles of Hawaiian suftboard which include new colors, designs, and shapes. But overall, I quite like this shirt and could use it someday.
